Replace Old Skylight Windows in Toronto

June 30, 2022 By Webmaster

Replace Old Skylight Windows in Toronto

There are many reasons to replace old skylight windows. No matter your reason, when you’re ready to take the plunge, call us at Aluplex. We offer high quality skylight windows and installation to the whole GTA.

Replace Leaking Skylight Windows

When you’ve had a skylight for many years, it will eventually begin to leak. If you’ve moved into a house that’s had a skylight for years before you lived there, you’re even more likely to be the one it gives out on. If your skylight is fairly old and begins to leak, even in small drips, you’ve got a problem on your hands.

A skylight window leaking doesn’t necessarily mean it’s broken. Because skylights are horizontal and placed on the roof, they have to handle keeping out sitting water for many years. Eventually, the seal will wear out. This can happen from caulking drying out and cracking, the wooden frame warping, or many other causes. Unfortunately, a crack would be easier to repair. When your skylight begins to have frame seal issues, it often needs to be replaced. The glass in it may be fine, but if the frame is having issues, that becomes the weakest link.

Replace Old, Worn Out Skylight Windows

Aside from leaking, skylights can also just begin to wear out. After over a decade of fending off sitting rain water, sitting under decomposing leaves and branches, and weathering the summer sun and winter snow, your skylight will begin to show its age.

When you’ve got an aging, old skylight, sometimes a good, passionate scrub will get it looking clean and new again. However, this isn’t always the case – especially with even older skylights. Sometimes even elbow grease isn’t enough to remove tough, burned-on algae and moss that’s been  baking under the sun for years. This is why it’s good to clean your skylight every year or two. If you like to put up Christmas lights or clean your gutters, that’s a good time to maintain them.

Another unfortunate truth: old skylights may not leak, but there may be more issue than just the look of them. If you can see the glass fogging up or moisture gathering between the panes, the outer pane is no longer sealed properly. Water has gotten into it. If that’s true, it’s a matter of time before the leak gets past the second pane as well. Additionally, this means the insulation gas has been able to leak out. Therefore, summer sun coming in through the skylight will impact your home temperature much more than usual. It ends up driving up your electric bill when it’s hot or cold out.

These skylights cannot be properly repaired and will never regain their integrity. They must be replaced with new ones.

Replace Old Skylight Windows

No matter what kind of wear and tear your skylight has sustained from aging, Aluplex is here to help in the replacement process. We can replace old skylight windows quickly and get you back to enjoying your everyday life with one less concern on your plate. Plus, we offer emergency repair services. So, if you ever encounter any problems in the future, we’ll be back in no time to fix your new skylight up again. Give us a call if you have any questions about our windows or services. We look forward to hearing from  you.

Open Concept Designs for Medical Offices

October 31, 2021 By Webmaster

Open Concept Designs for Medical Offices

Medical office design is an important part of what brings comfort and confidence to patients. Offer a comfortable medical office to your patients to ensure they come back for future appointments. How do you make your medical office design a success? One of the most foolproof methods is using open concept designs for medical offices. Here are some of the ways you can make your medical office more open concept.

Light Flow

One of the biggest features in open concept design is light flow. Without good light flow, open concept design is meaningless. So, how do you achieve good light flow in your open concept medical office? One great solution is using a frameless system.

Frameless Systems

A frameless system is a glass dividing system for office spaces. They’re most commonly used in business offices, but can be implemented in medical offices as well. Instead of walling off the actual office space behind check-in counters, put up frameless system dividers. These glass walls will allow seamless light flow, a less restrictive space, but will still provide privacy and noise dampening.

More Windows

The next solution to providing light flow in open concept designs for medical offices is by adding more windows. Too many medical office buildings skimp on windows, leaving the office dark and closed-off. By implementing large windows in your office design, you let the sun inside in all its glory.

Don’t stop at regular windows. If your medical office is its own building or on the top floor of a shared building, opt for a skylight. Putting a large skylight into a medical office space lets in tons of light and a view of the sky. Nothing feels quite so open as being able to look up and enjoy the morning sky.

Save Electricity

Because large windows let in ample light during business hours, you can save a ton of money on electricity. Especially in offices with skylights, electric light may not even be necessary during the brighter months of the year.

Bring the Outdoors In

There are more benefits to additional windows than just added light. Bringing the outdoors in is a huge bonus to office likeability. Patients love getting to admire the surrounding scenery when waiting for their appointment. This is especially true in more suburban or rural areas with lots of trees.

If you’re building or remodeling a dental office, large windows also go great on the stretch of wall your dental chairs are facing. Giving patients, young and old alike, a view of the birds and trees outside is a great way to offer peace and a sense of calm. This will help a lot with those who have dental anxiety.

Office Resale Value

If moving your office to a bigger space later is something you’re considering, don’t fret. Open concept designs for medical offices offer great resale value. Even if someone intends to move in a different type of practice, windows and skylights are always a plus. You’ll have no trouble selling an office space with a lot of light and an open concept interior.

Attic Skylights and Windows for Your Attic Remodel

July 30, 2021 By Webmaster

Attic Skylights and Windows for Your Attic Remodel

Doing an attic remodel can open the door to a lot of possibilities. You can add a new bedroom, an art studio, storage room, or even a full suite, if the attic is big enough. However, with an attic remodel comes the need for attic skylights or windows.

Providing Sunlight

Attics aren’t typically built to bring comfort to its visitors, as the visits are usually short. That means there usually aren’t any windows. If you have bigger plans for your attic than holding into some dusty old boxes, you’ll want to install attic skylights or windows.

Attic skylights are a great option, as there’s very little wall space in an attic, but plenty of roof and ceiling. These skylights will provide plenty of sunlight to anyone who will be visiting the renovated attic for longer than a few minutes. Whether that’s someone doing some crafting at their work station or a new inhabitant is entirely up to you.

Improving Safety

Attics are not the safest place in any house. In the case of a fire, the attic’s lack of windows can quickly lead to injury or death. Therefore, if you intend to use your attic space as something more, windows are a necessary safety feature. Attic skylights should be able to open to allow anyone inside to escape if worse comes to worst. Any regular windows on the walls of the attic should be able to open as well.

Regardless of what type of windows you install, you should also keep a rope or rope ladder somewhere accessible near the window. This ensures anyone trapped in the attic during an emergency like a house fire will be able to descend safely to the ground without using the interior stairs.

Buy Quality Windows

Quality glass is important no matter what part of the house windows are installed in, but attics have some quirks. Because they’re at the top of the house, attics are the final destination of any warmth in the house. During cold months, heat will quickly escape through low quality windows with bad insulation and cold will seep in. Ensuring you buy quality windows with good insulation and glass that won’t break during stormy weather means a better quality of life for anyone frequenting the renovated attic space.

Aluplex is Toronto’s favorite window and glass manufacturer. We offer a quality that’s hard to match and are happy to help you install your new windows. Get results that satisfy you for years to come by relying on us.

How to Fix a Leaky Skylight Window

June 30, 2021 By Ezra Vogel

How to Fix a Leaky Skylight Window

If your skylight is leaking, you’re likely rushing for solutions to avoid water damage. Or, maybe it just keeps dripping on your carpet and leaving a wet spot. Either way, getting your leaky skylight window fixed is a necessary step in ensuring damage doesn’t occur. Aluplex, your local skylight experts in Toronto, are here to help.

Check It’s Closed

If you’ve recently moved into a new home and your skylight has leaked every time it’s rained since moving in, the first thing you should check is if it’s closed. Some skylights can be opened, even if they’re not within easy reach. Grab yourself a stool or a step ladder and make sure the window isn’t ajar.

Check the Seal

While you’re up on your stool, the next step is checking the seal of openable windows. Even if it was firmly shut, if the window is able to open and close, there may simply be damage to the seal. This is easy to check for. Look for areas where the rubber strip is coming loose from the window frame. If it’s not loose, look it over for weak points where it’s cracking, has split, or is otherwise damaged.

Look for Cracks

If your seal seems just fine, or if your leaky skylight window isn’t one that opens, the next step is checking for cracks. One of the most common ways a skylight window begins leaking is if debris, such as a tree branch, falls during a storm and leaves a small crack. These cracks aren’t always obvious, as they often happen near the edge of the window. A flashlight will be helpful in searching for small cracks along the glass.

Replacement Skylights

If your window is closed, has a proper seal, and isn’t cracked, a leak means bigger problems. There is likely a leak coming through the frame somewhere. That means potential roof damage, installation issues, and the possible for future water damage within your ceiling. Therefore, the best solution for this kind of issue is skylight replacement.

In order to get a professional diagnosis of your leaky skylight window problems, give us a call at Aluplex. We know skylights the best in the area and can help you find the problem and fix it. We can also replace your skylight for you as soon as possible to prevent further water damage.

Leaky Skylight Window Repair

If your skylight is leaking because of a broken seal or cracked glass, the repair solution is simpler than replacement. Skylight glass can often be replaced without having to reinstall the entire skylight, frame and all. Sealing strips can be bought from a hardware store and attached with a strong glue or adhesive. For either of these repairs, call us at Aluplex and we can help with questions and repairs.

Skylight Installation Professionals in Toronto

April 30, 2021 By Ezra Vogel

Skylight Installation Professionals in Toronto

Skylights can be truly transformative centerpieces to otherwise simple spaces. This is true for many kinds of interiors. From family homes to sprawling office buildings, skylights can really make the difference. So, when you want to take a space to the next level, who do you call? The simple answer is: Aluplex. Aluplex has the skylight installation professionals you need, all across Toronto.

Big or Small

Skylights come in all shapes and sizes. Some glass and construction companies only offer services for one or the other. Small-scale construction companies may be happy to help install a skylight over your kitchen, but aren’t qualified nor interested in taking on something larger. Some commercial names are happy to take on big projects but don’t have time for small, residential window installation.

Aluplex is here for you no matter what size skylight you want installed. If we sell it, we can put it in for you. Skylights are one of our specializations and we take that to heart. If you need help making your skylight needs a reality, you can count on us to make it happen.

Any Style You Want

Skylights aren’t a one size fits all kind of design feature. Sure, small rectangular skylights are pretty standard in housing, but that doesn’t mean they’re right for everyone. This is especially true when beginning to scale up. Larger buildings have a lot more ceiling room to accommodate things like dome or pyramid skylights. With more options to choose from, who wouldn’t want to get creative?

No matter what style you’re after, we know how to help. Different types of skylights will require different kinds of buildings, connections, anchoring, and more. Our skylight installation professionals know how to expertly install any of our offered skylights.

Emergency Repair Services

No one is immune to incident, especially not skylight owners with trees around their home. Skylights aren’t impervious to damage. And, because of their position on the roof of a home or office, a damaged skylight can mean a damaged interior. After all, water has been known to do quite a number on flooring and furniture alike. If a skylight is what’s keeping the rain out, a damaged skylight is bad news all around.

Fortunately Aluplex’s skylight installation professionals are also skylight repair specialists. If you have emergency repair needs, call us right away and we’ll be out to help you as soon as we can. Even if it’s still storming, we’ll be there for you. After all, it’s better to get your window back in working order while the rain is still coming down.

Broken Skylight Replacements

Whether you need emergency skylight repair services or not, we’re also happy to help with broken skylight replacements. As we said, a broken skylight can cause all kinds of problems. Therefore, if a broken skylight is plaguing your home, we can replace it with one that will do its job. Just give us a call when you’re ready to get your skylight replacement and we’ll make it happen.

Emergency Skylight Repair Services in Toronto

March 1, 2021 By Ezra Vogel

24/7 Window Repair Services in Toronto

There’s nothing more frustrating than something going terribly wrong while there’s no one around to help. Like getting a flat tire, miles from the nearest town, getting a broken window during a storm is quick to cause panic. After all, nobody’s open for business during a huge storm, right? Actually, Aluplex does. Here at Aluplex, we know that disaster doesn’t go on pause when it’s inconvenient for us. That’s why we have emergency skylight repair services in Toronto. When things go wrong at a bad time, we’re here to help. Here’s how you can make the most of our emergency skylight repair services.

Keep Nature Outdoors

A broken skylight can be quite a problem. A nighttime storm brings more with it than difficulty sleeping. It can also bring with it some local animals wanting to seek shelter in your home. If the glass is completely broken, anything from birds to raccoons could head toward the warmth. Getting these well-meaning, but self-serving creatures out, once they’re in, can be quite difficult. The smaller they are, the more likely they are to get in, and the harder they are to remove.

The faster you have your broken skylight repaired, the less chance there is for these locals to sneak their way inside. While waiting for our repair team to arrive, stick around and keep an eye on things. Your presence is one of the best ways to deter animals from trying to get in.

Prevent Flooding

If animals inviting themselves in isn’t bad enough, we have to consider the even more wild and uncontrollable danger of flooding. Rain isn’t sentient, so it has no qualms about running in through every crack it can find. If your skylight is cracked, flooding is possible. If it has a hole in it, it’s almost guaranteed, in some capacity. At least, if it’s not prevented right away.

If you find that a skylight has broken while the rain is pouring, your most immediate reaction should be grabbing a towel or blanket to lay out underneath it. It will soon get soaked, but will continue to minimize the spread of water across the floor. As soon as you’ve laid out something to absorb the intruding water, get yourself a bucket or bowl – or many. Place them on top of the towel or blanket where most of the water is coming in. This will help catch much of the rain and prevent damage.

As soon as your emergency flood prevention is in place, give us a call. Our number is available right at the bottom of our website. While you wait for us to arrive, be sure to empty your bowls or buckets to keep them from overflowing.

Replace Your Broken Skylight ASAP

If you want to prevent damage to your home during a storm, take a broken skylight seriously. Even if it’s only dripping, waiting until the next morning can lead to expensive damages to your home. We’re available for emergency skylight repairs for a reason. Take advantage of that so that we can help keep you and your home in good shape. The best way to do that is by replacing your broken skylight as soon as possible.
